"Mill City", suggesting a time when its riverfronts led the nation in flour production, and "City of Lakes", referring to the thirteen lakes within the city borders, have both endured the test of tim. More recently, as a dual tribute to the city''s beloved Minnesota Vikings and its departed Artist, it is common to hear the mention of simply "The Purple City".
