Description
This panorama, taken by James Blakeway, commemorates the New York Islanders final regular season game at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Coliseum has been home to the New York Islanders since their debut into the NHL in 1972. The arena was built at the cost of 32 million dollars and sits on sixty-three acres of Mitchel Field, formerly a United States Army/Air Force base located in the center of Nassau County. The building was dedicated to those who had made the supreme sacrifice, hence the name Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Beginning the 2015-16 season, the Islanders will move to their new home in Brooklyn.
