Growing up in Devils Lake, North Dakota, right in the central flyway of many different waterfowl species, has allowed Jeff to study firsthand the different habits and habitats of his favorite wildlife subjects. In 1997, coaxed by a friend to enter his very first duck stamp competition, Jeff submitted a painting of a pair of hooded mergansers in the Nevada State Duck Stamp contest. His entry placed 5th out of 67 entries from across the country, inspiring him to pursue and develop his skills as an artist. With continued hard work, in 2002 he won the Nevada State Duck Stamp competition beating out 35 entries from across the nation with his painting of a pair of Cinnamon Teal. Since then, Jeff has won state duck stamp contests in Oklahoma, Ohio and Iowa. Giclee (jee-clay) is an advanced printmaking process for creating high quality fine art reproductions. The attainable excellence that Giclee printmaking affords makes the reproduction virtually indistinguishable from the original piece. The result is wide acceptance of Giclee by galleries, museums, and private collectors. Gallery wrap is a method of stretching an artist's canvas so that the canvas wraps around the sides and is secured a hidden, wooden frame. This method of stretching and preparing a canvas allows for a frameless presentation of the finished painting.
